The ACES are heading to the Ford Trophy Final. After a commanding performance against Central Districts, they’ve booked their place in the decider and set up a rematch with Canterbury—the team that edged them out in last year’s final. It’s a fitting showdown, made even more compelling by the fact that these two sides met just days ago in the last round-robin match, where Canterbury scraped home on the final ball. Now, with silverware on the line, the ACES have the perfect chance to turn the tables.
Yesterday’s Elimination Final was a statement win. Jimmy Neesham was at his destructive best, smashing 128 off just 82 balls before stepping up with the ball to take 3/53. BJ Jacobs (51) and Lachie Stackpole (maiden List A 50) played crucial supporting roles, helping the ACES post a strong total. With the ball, Adi Ashok made a big impact on return from injury, picking up 3/55, as the ACES bowled Central out and secured their spot in the final. It was a performance that showcased the team’s depth, composure, and ability to rise to the occasion—all qualities that will be needed again tomorrow.
Canterbury have been a consistent force all season, and they’ll come into the final with confidence. But the ACES have built momentum at the right time, and with players stepping up across the board, they’ll be backing themselves to get the job done. One game stands between them and the title. One last push to finish the limited overs summer on a high.
First ball is at 10:30 am, live from University of Otago Oval. Watch it on TVNZ+, stream it on NZ Cricket’s YouTube channel, or listen live on Sports Nation.
