It was a high-paced match with slow-paced bowling the aim of the game at Onewa as 23 of the 24 wickets to fall on Day 1 was to spin, with the 24th being a runout. Takapuna won the toss and elected to bat first, with the top 3 batters scoring, Tristan Van Ingen-Kal topping the charts with 28, making the most of the pace on the ball before the spinners came into the game. Liam Wheeler fought hard, making an unbeaten 48 as he got the visitors close. However, he was left stranded as Cornwall were bowled out for 116, just short of the first innings target. Toby Stroobant took 5/50 from 25 overs opening the bowling, with his fellow opening bowler Matt Jones taking 3/32.
