Lindsay Crocker, Former Auckland Cricket CEO, Dies Aged 64

Lindsay Crocker, former CEO of Auckland Cricket Association and an influential figure in New Zealand cricket, has died aged 64.

Crocker made a massive contribution to the development of cricket in Auckland during his tenure as CEO of ACA from February 1996 to July 2003. He then served as team manager for the BLACKCAPS from 2003 until 2009 and head of operations for New Zealand Cricket from 2010 until 2016.

“Everyone at Auckland Cricket was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Lindsay Crocker,” says current CEO Iain Laxon.

“Lindsay, or Crocks, was someone who made a significant impact on the cricket environment in New Zealand and especially in Auckland. His contribution as CEO to the long term health of Auckland Cricket was immense. He had the foresight to see the need to create a sustainable support system for cricket clubs and initiated the Club is the Hub programme, which continues to help clubs grow and thrive.

“He also helped create the most significant governance change in the Association’s history when ACA moved to a Board of Independent Directors, well ahead of most sporting organizations. In addition, he had to deal with a players strike and manage the onset of the professional game, something he did with his usual skill, shrewdness and concern for all of those he was responsible for.

“He was a great servant to cricket throughout his life and he will be sadly missed.”

A funeral service will be held on Sunday 14th May. Auckland Cricket Association and the wider cricket community mourn his loss and extend heartfelt sympathies to his family.
