ELIMINATION FINAL | HEARTS vs. Blaze | Blaze won by 35 runs

The HEARTS Dream11 Super Smash campaign has come to an end after today’s 35-run Elimination Final defeat to the Blaze at the Outer Oval.

Bowling first, the HEARTS were unable to emulate Sunday’s early wickets Sophie Devine (33) and Maddy Green (32) took the Blaze out of the powerplay.

Fran Jonas (2-23) celebrated her WHITE FERNS call up with the wickets of both openers, but it was a Melie Kerr classic that took the game away from the HEARTS. Though the HEARTS picked up several late wickets, Kerr (54*) marshaled the Blaze middle-order through to 150/6 from their 20 overs.

The HEARTS chase got off to the worst possible start, losing Peterson to Devine’s first ball. The first bright spot of the chase came when Lauren Down hit three fours in the second over.

The skipper’s departure, however, in the 4th over made for a tricky rebuild. While Katie Perkins (46) and Bella Armstrong (33) grafted to a third-wicket stand of 65, the required run-rate approached ten runs per over.

The Blaze set smart fields, cutting off any HEARTS boundaries and the innings eventually petered out. In the end, the HEARTS finished with 115/7, falling 35 runs short of a spot in Saturday’s Grand Final.
