Auckland Hearts split victories in Queensland
The Auckland Hearts have split victories against the Queensland Fire in their pre-season trip to Brisbane.
First playing a one-day match, the overs were reduced to 40 each. Queensland batted first and made 209/6. Roz McNeill was the standout performer for the Hearts with the ball, taking four wickets.
In reply, the Hearts came achingly close, dismissed just 11 runs shy for 199. Captain Maddy Green was the top-scorer with 69.
The two teams then played two T20 matches the following day.
In the first, the Hearts won by 7 wickets, overtaking Queensland’s score of 159 in the final over. Anna Peterson made 61 not out, Lauren Down made 26, Sara McGlashan 29 and Green a quick-fire 21 not out.
In the second T20, the Queensland Fire won by 7 wickets, chasing down the Hearts’ score of 114. Down made 32 and Regina Lilii scored 27.
The Hearts begin their domestic season this Thursday, against the Otago Sparks in Lincoln.
From 25-28 October, the Hearts will play five T20 games in four days against all the other New Zealand women’s domestic teams for the opening rounds of the Burger King Super Smash.
