Auck U19 decimate Canterbury by nine wickets

The Auckland U19’s have completed an absolute demolition job on Canterbury U19’s today with a nine wicket win at Bert Sutcliffe Oval, Lincoln.

After winning the toss and batting first, Canterbury put on 46 for the first wicket with no indication of what was to come.

Second change bowler Sean Playle came on and knocked the top off the home side’s batting, virtually unplayable as he took 3-9 from five overs.

The Aucks were also dynamic in the field, effecting two run outs as they put the genuine squeeze on the Canterbury batting line-up.

Carl de Beer was destroyer number two, taking 3-9 also as the middle and lower order of Canterbury crumbled, eventually bowled out for 92 in the 31st over.

Early wickets were required from the home side but they Aucklanders were having none of it, openers Ben Beecroft (32*) and Tristan van Ingankal (32) pretty much putting the game to bed with a 63-run partnership at the top.

When van Ingankal departed, Auckland Captain Finn Allen came in and blazed four boundaries to finish the game 23* along with Beecroft.

A comprehensive nine-wicket win for the Auckland Under 19 side before a rest day tomorrow.
