Takapuna down Suburbs to take one day title

Vanilla BriefClub Cricket

Takapuna turned around the previous day’s result to defeat Suburbs New Lynn in the Jeff Crowe Cup final and claim the one day title.

Suburbs New Lynn were looking good when Max Montgomery (86) and Victor Davies (71) were together and they had wickets in hand. But spinner Jason Donnelly and veteran Paul Hitchcock both got amongst the wickets to precipitate Suburbs downfall.

Donnelly took some stick off his overs but he crucially picked up four wickets that helped put the skids under Suburbs and Hitchcock proved that he’s still got plenty to offer at this level, picking up three wickets for just 27 runs.

Takapuna set up their victory with an all-round batting display that included half centuries from no less than four players and allowed them to maintain their momentum throughout the innings. Elliot Herd top scored with 63 but it was a truly combined efffort from the Takapuna batsmen that allowed them to post a total of 260 on a very good Colin Maiden Park wicket.

By winning the final Takapuna earn the right to represent Auckland at the National Club Championships held at Cornwall Park in April.
