Jeff Crowe Cup Semifinal Preview

This Sunday, four become two. The time has come to find our Jeff Crowe Cup Finalists and we have two blockbuster semifinals to look forward to.

At Shore Road, Parnell host Takapuna in a rematch of this year’s T20 Championship Final. While Takapuna came out on top in a low-scoring thriller that day, defending champions Parnell know there are still two trophies to chase.

Parnell’s Nikith Perera said the Peaches haven’t spoken about the T20 Final defeat ahead of Sunday’s semifinal.

‘We had a chat immediately after the Final about how we only failed in one of the three disciplines.

“We were outstanding in the field and with the ball in that game and I think that is where the game will be decided this weekend.”

With Parnell and Takapuna midway through a two-day match at Shore Road, both sides will be comfortable with the conditions.

Asked what role home advantage might play on Sunday, the left-arm spinner said it is important, but not vital.

“It is helpful to know how the pitch plays and what the conditions are like, however, we know it’s all about who turns up on the day.”

Hoping to triumph at Cornwall Park will be hosts Cornwall and Suburbs New Lynn. The two sides are yet to meet this season but with experienced squads, they’ll know each other quite well.

Dane Watson said Suburbs have played in their fair share of knockout matches and that could prove beneficial on Sunday.

“It’s a real bonus to the side to have guys like Michael Barry, Jonny Bassett-Graham and now Carl Brungar in the side.

“You can look at these guys in key moments, not only for their skills but also for their knowledge and understanding of situations.”

The off-spinner believes Suburbs’ success over the last couple of years has a lot to do with a dynamic batting unit.

“Openers Raj Majithia and Tristan Payle provide a nice balance and then having classy lefties, Mitchell Murray and Michael Barry, makes it hard work for opposing bowling attacks.”
