Auckland Premier Cricket Short Report – 3 March

Auckland Premier Cricket Short Report

It was a wicket fest at Colin Maiden Park on day two between Auckland University and Howick Pakuranga with the boys from Lloyd Elsmore picking up a vital outright win.

Howick Pakuranga started the day 59/3 in reply to University’s first innings total of 188.

Andrew Morrison (65) played a vital hand for the visitors keeping the scoreboard ticking over as wickets fell around him.

Jeet Patel (5-94) put in a great shift for University keeping his side in the hunt for first innings points.

The work of Morrison, who also found support from David Winn (30) and Dale Phillips (20) was enough for Howick Pakuranga reaching 189/7 and declaring with first innings points secured.

University found themselves in a deep hole early in their second dig courtesy of Donovan Grobbelaar (3-20) who ripped through University’s top order to put Howick Pakuranga on top.

Adam Jones (5-22) really turned the screws running through University’s batsmen in quick fashion.

University simply had no answers slumping to 81 all out, with Jones wrapping up his five-wicket haul, leaving his side 81 to chase for victory.

Howick Pakuranga’s chase had an early wobble losing both openers early on to give University a sniff with the total at 16/2.

The nerves continued for the visitors, Thomas Wells (3-33) destroying the middle order to leave the match on a knife’s edge at 54/6.

Cam Neale (35*) was the hero for Howick Pakuranga clearing the fence twice in his quick-fire knock seeing his side home with four wickets to spare in the process picking up a valuable outright victory for the visitors.

In the other top four fixture, Papatoetoe picked up a vital outright victory due to an excellent display from Bhupinder Singh (7-102) who carried his side to victory.

In the bottom four, Takapuna scored an outright victory against Grafton, Elliott Herd the star of the show finishing with 6-55 in a dominant win for his side.

It was a nail-biter at Shore Road, with Parnell securing first innings points against Cornwall after a spirited rearguard action from their lower order.

In the Tom Hellaby, Ellerslie’s first innings total of 383 proved too much for Birkenhead, Ellerslie’s bowlers all contributing to pick up an outright victory.

At Eastdale Reserve, James Parslow scored a massive 218 not out for Suburbs New Lynn, before Anas Patel destroyed Waitakere’s lineup with excellent figures of 7-26 to help secure a comfortable outright win for the home side.

Eden Roskill put together a classy performance to defeat North Shore at Keith Hay Park, Barrington Rowland (59) getting his side home despite a tricky chase.
