Danru Ferns returns to the ACES squad for Sunday’s Ford Trophy clash with the Wellington Firebirds at Eden Park’s Outer Oval.

The ACES will be desperate to win both matches against the Firebirds this week, carrying a 1-3 record into Round Five after splitting results with the Otago Volts last week. The Firebirds will also be hungry for success, sitting a point ahead of the ACES in fourth on the Ford Trophy table.

ACES Assistant Coach Doug Watson said the side have prepared well and are excited for the next two games against the Firebirds.

“As a group, we’ve touched on a few aspects of our game that we want to improve.

Watson also acknowledged the form of Will O’Donnell, who has scored three consecutive Ford Trophy fifties.

“William has been in good form; Guppy has been striking the ball nicely, as has Sean. The next challenge for the group is to put on a big score.”

O’Donnell spoke of the importance of someone going big at the top of the order.

“The batting group know we need to cash in on a good surface at the Outer Oval.

“The bowlers have been working hard for us, so hopefully we can back up that good work with the bat.”
