U15 Girls win over a gritty Northern Districts side, make national finals
Northern Districts 103/5 (Holly Topp 37, Emma Baker 15, Emma Irwin 2/12, Emily Thurman 2/14) lost to Auckland 107/6 (Sam Petherick 20, Emma Irwin 19, Anna Browning 15, Georgina Harris 2/11, Emma Baker 2/18) by 4 wickets
Auckland come out on top over a fighting Northern Districts side.
ND Opener Holly Topp (37) and her fellow batters showed intent with the bat, digging in to be the first team to complete their 30 overs against the Auckland bowling attack. In doing so they were only able to put 103 runs on the board for the loss of 5 wickets. Emma Irwin (2/12) and Emily Thurman (2/14) were the pick of the bowlers. Together they bowled 12 overs going for a miserly 26 runs.
In reply Auckland openers Sam Petherick (20) and Emma Irwin (19) got off to a great start with a 50 run partnership. When both openers fell Auckland required 44 runs from 11 overs. ND bowlers Emma Baker (2/18) and Georgina Harris (2/11) took regular wickets making life difficult for the batters. However, in the end 103 was not enough. Auckland reaching the total after 27.4 overs with four wickets remaining.
This win puts Auckland on top of the table heading into tomorrow mornings final against Central Districts.
