Meet new S&C Specialist Diedrick Kruger

Going Deep

What’s your overall philosophy with S&C training?

“Everybody is an individual so tailor made programmes are key, but also getting to know the person as opposed to them being just an athlete who needs a programme. It makes my job a lot easier when I get to know the people and get to deal with them on a personal level and help them achieve their goals.”

“Once I have a relationship with a cricketer then the S&C just becomes a stepping stone to getting them to where they want to be. If they show me that they will meet me halfway then I will go the full way for them.”

Why New Zealand?

“I’ve always wanted to come visit New Zealand so when the job came up to come and work here, I thought ‘what a great opportunity to do what your passion is and do it in a country as beautiful as New Zealand.’ I also will get to see the country and meet its people along the way…Oh and I love rugby!”

What are your goals for the season?

“I think my biggest goal for the season is to have built up relationships from coaching staff to support staff to players and therefore be able to have that honesty within a working environment so you can have the hard chats if you need to.

“I don’t have any aspirations to move up in a system just yet so if I can be the best Strength and Conditioning Trainer for Auckland and help as many players achieve their goals for several seasons, I’m doing what I should already and everything above that is an undeserved privilege.”
