The Auckland Hearts are one win away form hosting the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield final as they take on the Wellington Blaze this weekend at Colin Maiden Park.
While the Hearts qualified for the final with their win over the Central Hinds two weeks ago, the hosting rights are still up for grabs, with 10 points available from this weekend’s two games.
Hearts head coach Dean Flyger concedes Wellington will pose a stiff challenge, with four of the Auckland team away on WHITE FERNS duty.
“It’ll be a challenge, of course, but one that we are looking forward to,” says Flyger.
“We’ve got good depth in the squad, and our younger players will be relishing the chance to get out there and play.”
Auckland has been impressive in this year’s Hallyburton Johnstone Shield, winning seven out of eight matches and picking up six bonus points. Who they’ll face in the final is a two horse race between Wellington and Central Districts.
Although the Hearts will be playing in the final, Flyger isn’t looking beyond the next two games.
“We’re focused on playing well against Wellington keeping to our plans and processes.
“This weekend is crucial – we want to take momentum into the final.”
The Auckland Hearts play the Wellington Blaze at Colin Maiden Park on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 February. Saturday’s match starts at 10:30am, Sunday’s match at 10:00am. Entry is free.
