HEARTS out to defend HBJ Shield at Outer Oval

It’s Grand Final time at Eden Park Outer Oval as the Auckland HEARTS take on the Canterbury Magicians for the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield on Sunday.

Head Coach Nick White has added leg-spinner Jane Barnett to his squad as the HEARTS seek to defend their title.

The occasion is set to be a special one for Holly Huddleston, who is not only set to step out in the HBJ Shield for the 100th time for the HEARTS but with one more wicket the all-rounder can become the HEARTS leading wicket-taker across formats.

Skipper Lauren Down spoke of her side’s desire to go back-to-back.

“There is plenty of history on the HBJ Shield and going back-to-back is something we want to do to be a part of that history.

“We’ve put in a lot of work. This is what we play for.

“This is crunch time and what we all get excited about.”

Down acknowledged that playing Canterbury again after last week’s double comes with advantages and disadvantages.

“We will take what we can from last week, implement them in training and take that knowledge into this Sunday’s Final.”
