Hearts face off against Northern Spirit at home
This weekend the Hearts play their first home games in the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield, with two matches against the Northern Spirit at Colin Maiden Oval on Saturday and Sunday.
After an excellent first round in Christchurch against the Canterbury Magicians, the Hearts are looking to continue their winning ways.
The WHITE FERNS have also come in to bolster the side.
Returning Hearts captain Maddy Green says it’s a great feeling to be coming back into the side to defend the HBJ Shield.
“It’s the ideal really, the team is in a good place and I’m really looking forward to getting out there for the Hearts.”
Coach Dean Flyger admits the WHITE FERNS return creates an enjoyable selection headache.
“It’s always better to have more players fit and in-form than the other way around,” he says.
“The team is a really good unit, players know they’ll get opportunities and they will be making the most of those.”
The Northern Spirit are coming off two losses against the Central Hinds a fortnight ago. The team will be eager to put that behind them when they come to Auckland.
Green says that Northern Districts are always a tough side to face and the Hearts won’t be counting them out.
“They always bring a challenge, so we’re not going to be relaxing. We know their girls pretty well and they have some very talented players.”
The Hearts are hoping the weather comes to the party and lets them enjoy the chance to play at home.
The Auckland Hearts play the Northern Spirit in two 50-over matches on 1 and 2 December at Colin Maiden Park. The Saturday match begins at 10:30am and the Sunday match begins at 10:00am. Entry is free.
