HEARTS all in for Super Smash Final

A settled Auckland HEARTS squad head into Sunday’s Dream11 Super Smash final at the Basin Reserve looking to do something special against the Wellington Blaze.

While the HEARTS know it will take a prolonged effort to topple the unbeaten Blaze on their home patch, Head Coach Nick White said the HEARTS will take a lot out of the last two matches – a loss to the Blaze and Thursday’s Elimination Final victory over the Otago Sparks.

“It’s pretty straight forward for us.”

“We’re confident with the style of cricket we’ve been playing and believe that if we put it all together then something special can happen tomorrow.”

“At the same time, we respect the form the Blaze have been in and the quality of the cricket they have played.”

Skipper Anna Peterson said the HEARTS are happy to go into Sunday’s final as underdogs.

“It relieves a bit of pressure and it allows us to go out there, play our brand of cricket and enjoy it.

“Any team is beatable on any day. The Blaze don’t just have a dominant batting side; it’s the bowling, particularly in the spin department, that has been most impressive.”

Key HEARTS bowler Arlene Kelly said the HEARTS have nothing to lose ahead of tomorrow’s final.

“It’s been a full-on season, but getting to the final gives us one last opportunity to express ourselves.

“We’re all looking forward to the challenge of focusing on our strengths and doing the basics long enough to put the Blaze under pressure.”
