WHITE FERNS Lauren Down and Katie Perkins return to the HEARTS 13-strong squad to take on the Otago Sparks in Invercargill over the weekend.
With Holly Huddleston unavailable (managed return) and allrounders, Anna Peterson and Arlene Kelly easing their way back to full fitness, Down and Perkins add considerable experience to a young HEARTS group.
Down said she had a great time in Australia and is excited to be home.
“It’s always great to be back with the HEARTS and I’m fizzing to get into some 50 Over cricket this weekend in Invercargill.”
Named the HEARTS skipper for the weekend, Down is proud to be leading the side for the first time.
“I’m quite excited about the opportunity to lead a young group with a lot of raw talent.
“It’s another opportunity for us to show our skills and I’m looking forward to seeing what the girls have been working on over the last couple of months.”
Perkins, who scored 329 runs at an average of 82.25 last summer, will also be a massive boost to the HEARTS top order.
“We know how much Katie brings to our side,” said Down of her fellow WHITE FERNS teammate.
“Katie has a lot of experience, especially for the HEARTS, and she’ll be as excited as anyone to be back at the top of our order.”
