The Auckland Under-21 Women’s team have wrapped up the national tournament with a day to spare after their 47- run victory over the Canterbury Under-21 Women’s team at Lloyd Elsmore Park in Auckland.

Auckland were sent into bat in the Twenty20 fixture and never looked back. Saachi Shahri with another valuable contribution of 40 at the top while captain and fellow opener Natasha van Tilburg was superb.

Van Tilburg smacked eight fours in her 73* off just 56 balls, the openers putting on 118 for the first wicket and setting up the game for their team.

Auckland reached 145/5 from their 20 overs and then came out and performed as an all-round bowling unit with the ball.

Five bowlers claimed a wicket a piece and Skye Bowden finished with incredible figures of 2/3 off her two overs as Canterbury stuttered to 98/9 from 18.2 overs, their last player absent from the batting lineup.

A superb bowling effort meaning the Aucklanders have already claimed the national title with half a day of play tomorrow.
