Auckland U19 on the board in Lincoln

A solid day out for Adam Jones with bat and ball has helped Auckland Under 19’s to a 27-run win against Otago 19 in today’s one-day match at Lincoln Green, Lincoln.

Batting first, the Auckland top order failed to fire and at 113/7 things were looking a little desperate for the Aucks.

However, the lower order rallied first with Ryan Schierhout (39) before Jones (62*) and Sean Playle (42) put on 109 for the ninth wicket to ensure the Aucklanders had something to bowl at.

With 238/9 from their 50 overs, Auckland U19 would’ve fancied their chances and despite a solid opening partnership of 59, the boys fought back putting the squeeze on the Otago batting.

A strong all-round effort with the ball was headlined by Jones who took 4-35. He was well supported by Schierhout and Carl de Beer who finished with identical figures of 2-39 each from 10 overs.

The Aucklanders were dynamic in the park protecting a middling total and will be filled with confidence after notching up their first win of the tournament.

Auckland U19’s next opponent is Canterbury U19 tomorrow at Bert Sutcliffe Oval.
