Auckland U19 go down on opening day

It wasn’t the start the Auckland Under 19’s were looking for at National Tournament; going down to Central Districts Under 19’s by 128 runs in round one at Lincoln.

Asked to bowl first, the Aucklanders made a double strike with the score on 67 and were well in the hunt.

But the Central innings was held together by K Boshier who scored 95 at better than a run a ball, manipulating Auckland around the field well.

Central U19 put 263/7 on the board from their 50 overs, the match evenly poised at the halfway mark.

Coming out to chase and the Auckland batsmen couldn’t get anything going with the blade.

Despite 41 from Finn Allen at number three, they lost wickets at regular intervals as Central started to take the upper hand.

Ryan Schierhout fought hard for a run-a-ball 33 in the middle order but without men in the shed, the chase got away on the Aucks, eventually bowled out for 135 in the 34th over.

Auckland U19 will have a chance for redemption when they take on Otago U19 tomorrow.
