Premier Reserve Finals Preview – 6 February

Tomorrow’s Premier Reserve Limited Overs Major Championship final is a replay of last year’s clash, as Suburbs New Lynn hosts Eden Roskill.

Both teams have some history driving them, as Suburbs looks to avenge Last year’s defeat, and Eden Roskill chases a third title on the trot.

Eden Roskill captain Syed Mujtaba says the two clubs always have a good rivalry.

“We know each other pretty well, lots of players move from them to us or us to them.”

“We have some good battles. They’re always tough, but they’re played in the right spirit.

Suburbs senior Bowler James Nolen says his side is rapt to be playing the final at home.

“It’s huge for us. We haven’t had much chance to play on the number one at the Ken so far this season.

“It was a big motivator to win our last match so we could host the final.”

Suburbs New Lynn has been impressive throughout the round-robin, winning six from seven after losing the first game back in October.

Nolen attributes this to the team’s strong bowling attack.

“I think we’ve managed to set up games well and get into good position. Our bowlers have been able to knock the top off the opposition.

“We’d probably want a slightly bigger score tomorrow to give us the best chance.”

Eden Roskill are coming into the match having lost the final round-robin game, but Mujtaba says they’ll be looking to some of their returning players.

“We’ve got some firey bowlers coming back in.”

“I think the team has a good mix, there’s some newer faces, but also a number of more experienced guys who have played in finals before.”

Mujtaba is encouraging his players to embrace the occasion.

“The boys have done a great job to get to the final. We will be trying to just enjoy the day first, and let the result come from that.”

The Minor Championship final will see unbeaten Howick Pakuranga take on Takapuna. Their round-robin match was a high-scoring affair ten days ago. Howick Pakuranga will be hoping that they can recreate the result, after they won by 42 runs.
