Premier Preview – 19 January

This weekend is the second-to-last round of the Jeff Crowe Cup, as the Premier Men’s club sides try to get clear of the log-jam that is shaping up in both pools ahead of the semi-finals.

There are a few good local derbies in the round as well – Suburbs New Lynn hosts Waitakere, Cornwall hosts Ellerslie, and North Shore hosts East Coast Bays.

The points table is looking decidedly cramped: in Pool One, University, North Shore, and Grafton are the top three – all on nine points. In Pool Two, Takapuna, Parnell and East Coast Bays are two, three and four – all on 12 points. Only Howick Pakuranga, on 15 points in Pool Two, has a lead by more than just run rate.

The Premier Women’s T20 double-headers move to Te Atatu Park for rounds five and six, with the Hearts and White Ferns all available to play for their club sides. After last week’s impressive showing by Unitak, they’ll take some stopping. In round five they come up against the other big winners from last week, Howick Pakuranga. Those two teams certainly have the firepower to put on a high-scoring and hard-fought match.
