Premier Cricket Preview – 24 November
Tomorrow is day two of round two in the Hedley Howarth and Tom Hellaby Championships, as well as round three of the Prichard Cup.
Prichard Cup – Round 3
The Prichard Cup returns after a week off for the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield. The Hearts are back on deck, but the WHITEFERNS are slated to take the week off after a 50-hour flight back from the Caribbean.
Unitak v Takapuna – Te Atatu Park
Both the Prichard Cup and Pearl Dawson Trophy finals last season were contested between these two teams, and both teams will be eager to show they’re the ones to beat when they meet for the first time in 2018/19. Takapuna have had impressive victories in the first two rounds, where Unitak lost in the first round against Papatoetoe before beating Parnell a week later. They’ll need to weather Takapuna’s strong bowling attack to hopefully put their batting under pressure. Home advantage is on Unitak’s side, and with rain potentially on the cards that could prove a big factor.
Howick Pakuranga v Parnell – Lloyd Elsmore Park
Neither Howick Pakuranga nor Parnell have picked up a win yet. Both teams lost to Cornwall after being bowled out for 148, Parnell in week one and Howick Pakuranga in week two.
Parnell will probably be looking at their results with a slightly more positive spin, as their bowling comes off as somewhat stronger. Either way, both teams are every evenly matched on results, and both will be eager to get a win and kickstart their season.
Papatoetoe v Cornwall – Papatoetoe Rec
Cornwall are looking strong so far, and will want to show they can take their winning ways on the road. Papatoetoe, meanwhile, will be keen to salvage some pride after they were comprehensively beaten at home in the last round by Takapuna. Cornwall’s bowling has been extremely strong – Fran Jonas has taken nine wickets in the first two rounds – so Papatoetoe will need to work to put a good score on. If they can do, it will put the pressure on Cornwall’s batsmen that Paptoetoe need to get the win.
