National Club Cricket Championships – Match Reports Day Six

St Albans (Christchurch)74/4 PLAYED Eastern Suburbs (Wellington) – Match abandoned

In an unfortunate end to the National Club Cricket Cricket Championships it was Auckland’s weather that had the greatest say in the final. After the match was able to get underway and with nearly half of St Albans’ allotted 50 overs completed steady rain saw players leave the field.

Unfortunately for both sides they were unable to return as the rain came down for much of the day making it impossible to complete a match. Eastern Suburbs handed their first ever National Club Cricket title thanks to a superior run rate during the course of the tournament round robin.

A rollicking batting effort from Kaikorai saw this match get to the most advanced position of any of the three that started today. The Dunedin club’s effort led by a supreme display from Iain Robertson. The opener nailing his ton in just 34 balls and with 13 4s and 7 6s. Robertson was however the only Kaikorai batsman who was able to go large and without another batsman chipping in a big score the side were all out for 248 in just the 27th over. In reply Manukau’s chase was ended by consistent rain.
