Central West claim Pearl Dawson Trophy

Central West picked up their first title of the season with a comfortable 72 run victory over North East in the Pearl Dawson Trophy final on Saturday.

A solid batting display was backed up by a convincing bowling performance that meant the victory was assured some time before the last wicket fell.

Losalini Harford provided the backbone for the Central West innings as she compiled an excellent 84 that guided her team to 186/6. On what was not the easiest wicket at Keith Hay Park that total was one that would take some getting.

It proved that way with Natalee Scripps doing early damage as she removed North East’s key player, their captain Victoria Lind, for a second ball duck. She then backed that up by removing Lauren Down first ball to put North East on the ropes.

Opener Elfreide Komp (38) and Pam Yates (20) battled hard for North East but the support was not there with no other player making it into double figures.

Scripps went on to grab 3/18 off her 8 overs and Sam Curtis performed the job of wrapping up the tail on her way to figures of 4/25 and securing the title for Central West.

The last competition of the season will be decided in three weeks time when the Twenty20 final will be played on 19 March.
