Papatoetoe played host to Howick Pakuranga in a pivotal top of the table clash, the teams also playing for the Hellaby Hunt Cup.

Donovan Grobbelaar (4-48) got the visitors off to the perfect start picking up a wicket in the first over of the day.

Papatoetoe’s batsmen all managed to get starts Logan Clark (31) and Arminder Sohal (28) digging in under pressure from the Howick Pakuranga bowlers.

Grobbelaar was particularly destructive ripping through Pap’s middle order to leave them in trouble at 109/6.

Rutvik Botadra (2-38) Adam Jones (2-37) and James O’Callaghan (2-33) all pitched in to help roll Papatoetoe for a modest 160.

Oliver Reynolds Pringle (1-41) struck early on to give Pap a much-needed boost.

Bhupinder Singh (3-51) was excellent for Pap, bamboozling Howick Pakuranga’s top order reducing the visitors to 65/4.

Navdeep Aujla (1-30) then picked up the big wicket of Grobbelaar to leave Howick Pakuranga in dire straits at 75/5.

Dale Phillips (78*) stood up for his side scoring the lion’s share of the runs seeing his side through to stumps within touching distance of first innings points at 142/6.

In the other top four clash, East Coast Bays are in the driver’s seat against Auckland University, after setting 228 with the bat ECB reduced Uni to 47/4 to end the days play.

In the bottom four, Dan ter Braak (104) has Takapuna in charge against Cornwall.

At Victoria Park, Aniket Parikh (6-72) ripped through Parnell’s line up the Peaches all out for 157, Parnell returning the favor bowling Grafton out for 150 to secure first innings points heading into day two.

In the Tom Hellaby, another unbeaten ton from James Parslow (111*) has Suburbs New Lynn in a dominant position against Eden Roskill.

At Michaels Ave, North Shore put in a great performance with the ball securing first innings points leaving Ellerslie on the back foot heading into day two.

An unbeaten Brad Cachopa (112*) has carried Waitakere to the verge of claiming first innings points in a tight game against Birkenhead.
