Wet outfield hampers Aces in Rangiora
It was a frustrating first day for the Aces in their Plunket Shield match against Canterbury in Rangiora today. The overnight rain meant a sodden outfield and they were left waiting until mid-afternoon to start play.
When they made it out onto the field, the Aces won the toss and opted to bowl first. Early wickets would have been the plan, but they were faced with another slow wicket and patient batsmen.
Jamie Brown dismissed opening pair Chad Bowes and Jack Boyle less than three overs apart for 25 and 9 respectively.
That brought out Stephen Murdoch and captain Cole McConchie. The pair increased the scoring rate, for a certain value of increased, after the tea break.
Matt McEwan had McConchie out LBW for 35 just before Canterbury broke the hundred, and the Aces bowlers were again left to grind out the last 20 overs of the day. They will restart at 143/3 tomorrow.
With more rain forecast tomorrow afternoon, both sides will need the early sessions to go their way if a result is on the cards.
