A late start for Auckland against Canterbury after heavy rain and wet ground shortened the day’s play.
Robbie O’Donnell won his first toss as captain and sent Canterbury in to bat. A decision which was rewarded when Sean Solia took 3-22.
Along with Jamie Brown, the Aces were able to remove four batsmen inside the first 22 overs. Then both teams were again forced off the park for rain and an early lunch.
After lunch, Canterbury was able to make some runs, with Leo Carter and Cam Fletcher in the middle, although they again had to go inside before tea due to rain.
Fletcher made it past 50 after 103 balls, and together with Carter the pair were close to a 100-run partnership as the conditions cleared overhead.
Ben Lister was then able to strangle Carter down the leg side, a diving catch from Ben Horne dismissing him for 35.
Fletcher was then joined by Henry Shipley for the last 10 overs of the day. Canterbury will resume on day two at 166/5, Fletcher on 62 and Shipley on 16.
