Colin Munro has led the Auckland Aces to a massive seven wicket victory over Canterbury on Eden Park Outer Oval today.

Chasing 278 for victory, Munro was simply sublime pulverising the Canterbury attack to all parts on his way to 174*- the highest ever List A score for an Aucklander.

His 174* came off just 118 balls and included 22 fours and six sixes, the Aces opener literally pumping the ball all over and even out of Eden Park Outer Oval in an innings to remember.

Earlier the Aces were asked to bowl first and did well to restrict a Canterbury batting line-up that included the dangerous Ben Stokes.

Stokes was called upon in the 11th over after a strong start from the Auckland attack, the English left hander scoring 34 before falling victim LBW to Tarun Nethula, his second of three wickets.

Todd Astle provided some resistance in the middle for the visitors with a half century but when Mitchell McClenaghan returned for his second spell the Canterbury batting had no answers.

McClenaghan took three wickets in a devastating death spell, at one stage on a hat-trick on his way to figures of 4-41 from his 10 overs.

Tarun Nethula took 3-68 while Munro and Lockie Ferguson chipped in with a wicket each as the Aces faced a chase of 278.

That’s where the Munro show took over, a record-breaking innings from the opener backed up with a half century from Mark Chapman (55*) as the Aces got home in a canter in the 43rd over.

The win ensures the home side stay top of the standings in the Ford Trophy before they take on the Wellington Firebirds this Sunday on Eden Park Outer Oval.
