Aces unchanged to face Wellington Firebirds

Aces unchanged to face Wellington Firebirds

The Auckland Aces will play host to the Wellington Firebirds on Sunday in the second round of the Ford Trophy with the same squad that accounted for Northern Districts in a nail-biter on Wednesday.

A brilliant Sean Solia century was the bedrock of that first round win and with the game to be played on the same wicket as that match, the Aces will be looking to the rest of their batting line-up to follow Solia’s example.

The Firebirds arrive on the back of an impressive seven wicket win over Canterbury and the Aces will be aware that they will need to back up their effort from Wednesday to maintain an unbeaten record.

Aces Coach Mark O’Donnell was happy with the win but sees plenty of room for improvement.

“It’s always nice to bag the close ones, and Sean’s innings was fantastic. It was great to see some guys stick with him to get us across the line, but building those big partnerships will be something we need to work on. Likewise, we are still getting used to hitting the right lengths and channels with the ball, but all of the bowlers will be a lot better for that hit out.”
