The Auckland ACES are unchanged heading into Round 5 of the Plunket Shield against Northern Districts at Eden Park’s Outer Oval.

Refreshed after last week’s tense draw with the Otago Volts, the ACES will take confidence from playing some excellent cricket across all four days.

With a congested table midway through the competition, there is plenty to play for as the ACES prepare to say goodbye to the Outer Oval for the summer.

14 points separate leaders, Central Districts, and the fourth-placed ACES and skipper Robbie O’Donnell knows his side is ready to go again.

“The boys were a little dejected after getting so close to a Plunket Shield win against Otago, but taking maximum bonus points keeps us pushing up the ladder.”

The ACES went within a wicket of claiming victory over the Volts and O’Donnell acknowledged the performances that put the ACES on top for much of the match.

“Overall we are happy with the way we played. There were several meaningful contributions to the team which put us in a position to look for the win.”

O’Donnell said the ACES are excited about signing off at the Outer Oval with a win.

“We understand we will need to keep playing positive cricket for the last four games. It starts with our last game at the Outer Oval.

“We’re looking forward to taking on a pair of BLACKCAPS’ spinners. It will be a really good challenge for us and we’ve prepared nicely for that.”
