Monday 10 January | Northern Districts won by eight wickets.
The ACES have fallen to Ford Trophy defeat against Northern Districts after a stuttering batting effort at Kennards Hire Community Oval.
Having been asked to bat first, the ACES ran into early trouble. Three down in the first hour, Glenn Phillips and Robert O’Donnell were tasked with repairing the damage; just when the pair appeared to have weathered the storm, Phillips (33) fell.
While the ACES kept moving, with skipper O’Donnell (31), Ben Horne (45) and Will Somerville (27) battling away, the visitors kept striking when they needed to. The result, a total of 221, all out in the final over.
For Northern Districts, Anurag Verma led the attack with 3-29, while spinners Ish Sodhi (2-54) and Mitchell Santner (2-47).
In reply, Ross ter Braak marked is season debut with the wicket of Tim Seifert in the fifth over. It would be the ACES only success for some time with Jeet Raval and Joe Carter patiently batting their side to victory.
While Raval fell three short of a century, Carter (105*) would not, hitting the winning runs with a six and, in doing so, bringing up his second List-A century.
The ACES face Northern Districts in a Ford Trophy rematch on Wednesday at Kennards Hire Community Oval.
