Auckland U15s undefeated in retaining National Tournament title
In the final match of the National Tournament, Auckland U15 Girls found themselves up against Canterbury U15 Girls to decide the National Championship.
Canterbury had first crack with the blade, Ellena Firth (39) and Lilly Collier (36) in great touch putting on 81 for the first wicket.
Emma Irwin (4-15) came into the attack and swung the match in Auckland’s favor ripping through Canterbury’s line up to leave them floundering at 92/6.
Georgia Edge (20) provided some lower order runs for Canterbury to boost their total to 131/6 off their 30 overs.
Auckland found themselves in hot water early on losing a wicket in the second over.
Anna Browning (50) came to the crease and looked comfortable from ball one, Browning kept the runs flowing whilst wickets fell at the other end.
Browning brought up her half-century with her 10th boundary to bring Auckland within touching distance of victory.
However, there was a further twist still to come in the match with Auckland losing back-to-back wickets to raise tensions in the camp.
Alyssa Bowden (13) proved to be cool under pressure, scoring the remaining runs getting her side home by four wickets with 22 balls to spare.
