Hearts squeeze Magicians to go six on the bounce
The Auckland Hearts have completed a 41-run victory at Melville Park this afternoon to continue their unbeaten start to the season.
Hearts skipper Maddy Green backed up her half century yesterday with another captain’s knock at number three.
Missing the usual batting strength of Anna Peterson and Katie Perkins, the skipper was the rock which the home side built around, her 80* including eight boundaries, coming off 98 balls.
Green was patient, pacing her innings well on a blazing hot day at Melville Park.
Lauren Down, Sarah Carnachan and Arlene Kelly all made solid contributions to the home side’s total of 204/9 off their 50 overs.
The Magicians got off to a fast start but it was Holly Huddleston who brought the home side back into the contest with two key wickets early on.
First, she removed WHITEFERN Amy Satterthwaite before Kate Ebrahim fell to have the Hearts well and truly in the contest.
On slowish deck the home side brought on the spinners, Georgia Guy taking a wicket to stem the flow of runs.
As the game went deep, the Hearts took control, all the bowlers chipping in as the required run rate climbed for the Magicians.
Huddleston’s return to the bowling crease brought about two more wickets, the Hearts speedster finishing with 4-22 from her eight overs.
Earlier she had also scored her 1000th List A run, completing a good outing for the WHITEFERNS quick.
Arlene Kelly picked up 2-51, Emma Fulbrook again classy with 2-27 while Roz McNeill chipped in with the last wicket.
The Magicians were eventually bowled out in the 46th over for 163 to complete a perfect weekend of cricket for the Auckland Hearts, they are now six from six to start the season.
