Hearts simply sublime at Melville against Magicians
The Auckland Hearts have continued their winning ways with a convincing eight wicket win over the Canterbury Magicians in today’s Hallyburton Johnstone Shield one-dayer at Melville Park.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat on a blazing day in Auckland, with the Hearts getting on top with the ball from the start.
Holly Huddleston was in the wickets early on before first change Emma Fulbrook excelled taking career best figures of 4-24.
Fulbrook ensured no Magician made it past 30 in a solid display of discipline at the bowling crease.
Roz McNeill and Maddy Green chipped in with a wicket each as the Hearts bowled the Magicians out in the 48th over for 147.
The day wasn’t without it’s challenges for the home side with Katie Perkins and Anna Peterson both having to leave the field through injury and illness respectively.
However, a reshuffled batting line-up made light work of what could have been an awkward total.
At 36/2 captain Green was joined by new comer Maia Bouchier and the pair simply didn’t look back.
Green was the rock scoring 79* in an innings that included seven fours and one six while Bouchier played a brilliant supporting role with 39* as they knocked off the chase within 36 overs.
The pair’s unbeaten 112-run third wicket partnership was also a record for Auckland against Canterbury.
The win is the Auckland Hearts fifth in a row and they will look to continue their momentum when they take on Canterbury in another one-day match tomorrow.
