Rain to the rescue for the Aces

Rain has saved the day for the Auckland Aces with the home side finishing the day 181/8 against the Central Stags, the match ending in a draw.

The Aces resumed day four on 152/5, a further 168 runs required to make Central bat again.

Overnight batsman Ben Horne was first to depart in the morning session caught at slip off Ajaz Patel.

Glenn Phillips was the last of the recognised batsmen, the youngster putting up the defenses facing 86 balls for his 23 runs.

However, when he was undone by Doug Bracewell, CD had an opening.

Patel then removed Stuart Meaker to claim his 10th wicket of the match to bring Matt McEwan (17*) and Ben Lister (1*) together.

The two bowlers held firm against extreme pressure from the Stags’ bowlers and field.

Rain coming to the rescue in the 82nd over with the rest of the day washed out.
