O’Donnell signs back on with Aces
Mark O’Donnell has signed on for another two years as Auckland Aces head coach.
O’Donnell is motivated by the prospect of working with the mixture of youth and experience currently within the Auckland Aces wider squad.
“With the group that we have got, there’s some very good young players coming through. I think it is a genuinely exciting next couple of years ahead,” O’Donnell says.
Auckland Cricket’s CEO Mark Cameron says he is pleased to have a man of O’Donnell’s experience returning next season.
“Mark is a quality coach and is going about developing the exciting young talent we have here at the Aces into title contenders for all three domestic competitions. He is still hungry for success and we believe he is the best man to continue taking this team forward next season,” says Cameron.
O’Donnell says the challenge this season will be harnessing the natural enthusiasm of the young squad men while also looking at the wider cricketing picture.
“We will not see our New Zealand players regularly, so it’s important that you’re preparing them to play for Auckland but also internationally,” he says.
“We still have to nail a bowling solution, but for the vast majority of players we have got here, with six or seven reasonably new first class players coupled with our New Zealand players that we’ll see at the start of the Plunket Shield, it’s dam exciting.”
