Auckland A’s thwarted by weather again

Auckland’s A programme was once again thwarted by the weather with the majority of their three-day game against Northern Districts A spent waiting for the rain to stop, eventually ending in a draw.

The fixture did get off to a delayed start on day one with Northern’s bowlers enjoying the swing friendly conditions, coupled with the use of the Dukes ball.

Will O’Donnell (53) was the only score of substance in Auckland’s first innings, his patient half century including seven boundaries and one six.

Raja Sandhu (2-2) and Danru Ferns (1-18) both snared wickets late on day one but ultimately the weather was going to have the last laugh.

Day two was a complete washout and while the teams did get on for a short while on day three, the game was eventually called off when the weather closed in again after lunch.

Graeme Beghin (34*) and Raj Majitha (22*) were the not out batsmen, Auckland A left to rue another fixture where weather was dominant over bat and ball.
