Kiwi 8's
Cricket in your lunchtime
Kiwi 8s is a modified version of cricket designed for students and teachers in primary and intermediate schools throughout Auckland.
This is an action packed game which maximizes participation for all players. A full game can be completed in 35-45 minutes and can take place with or without a cricket pitch. It uses only soft balls and limited equipment, and a requirement of teams is that at least 2 girls take part —encouraging participation for all.
This is a brand new competition in 2010 and is initially been offered to select clusters of schools. We envisage that this will become the pre-eminent Auckland Primary Schools Cricket Tournament with an Auckland Champion being crowned each year.
Schools will initially hold intra-school lunchtime competitions, with winners moving on to their cluster area field days, and culminating in an Auckland wide finals day at Eden Park.
Although we see this becoming a prestigious sporting tournament, the main focus is to increase the number of both boys and girls engaged in regular sport at both school and club level, and a subsequent improvement in the overall physical activity ethos of participating schools.
The rules and guidelines handbook aims to explain the rules of Kiwi 8s as played at intra-school, intra-cluster, and Auckland wide tournaments.
